Blogger on Japanese media: Japan Media Review is seeking an experienced journalist to write a web log on Japanese media and communication technology. This is a six-month contract. We're looking for someone who inform our readers about the latest in Japanese communications technology, as well as how that technology is being used in the service of traditional as well as “grassroots” journalism in Japan. The successful candidate will also need a deep understanding of Japanese media and be able to put its work into context for readers in the United States and other nations. The writer should glean items for the blog from trade shows, trade press, popular media and independent reporting. We're looking for a professional-quality blog, driven by its subject matter, not a diary of the writer's thoughts and experience. Strong command of both English and Japanese is required, and the writer must be eager to work with student editors. Compensation is US$45,000 for the project. Writer will work on a freelance basis and be responsible for his or her own expenses in fulfilling the contract. Japan Media Review is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and is a joint project of the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and the USC East Asian Studies Center. The University of Southern California is proudly pluralistic and firmly committed to providing equal opportunity for outstanding men and women of every race, creed and background. To apply for this opportunity, please e-mail a resume and URLs of previous work to jobs@ojr.org (no attachments, please). Or apply via postal mail to Robert Niles, Japan Media Review, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California, 3502 Watt Way, G21F, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0281
